Orangutan

Orangutan

The world's largest tree-dwelling animal, orangutans once lived throughout Southeast Asia. Today, these endangered apes are restricted to the islands of Sumatra and Borneo. In fact, the orangutans on each island are a separate species. The main threat to their survival is habitat loss caused by illegal logging, gold mining, and conversion to permanent agriculture, much of which is devoted to palm oil plantations.
