On January 9, 2006, the Zoo's female sloth bear, Hana, gave birth to a male cub.
On January 9, 2006, the Zoo's female sloth bear, Hana, gave birth to a male cub. He is named Balawat (pronounced ba-la-VHAT), which means power or powerful in the Sri Lankan language Sinhalese
